Transcript Resources
Transcripts! The thought of homeschooling high school and providing a transcript can seem daunting to parents. Doing it “wrong” and hurting their child’s chances to get into college is a common worry. You can’t really do it wrong, and colleges are used to various formats submitted by homeschoolers, as they see homeschool applications pretty often.
Some parents choose to do a transcript exactly how traditional public and private schools do it, with your traditional college prep course, along with letter grades. However, with standards based education, even the public school transcripts may look different from the old way.
Some parents might create an official, traditional looking transcript for things like car insurance discounts for young drivers, but then use a different format for the more competitive college application process.
It’s always good to investigate and contact the colleges your child is interested in before committing to a specific format. You might consider thinking of it like a resume too, emphasizing the work put into subjects that best highlight the type of postgraduate study the student is interested in, particularly for more eclectically educated, self-directed or “unschooled” teens.
