Field Trip Ideas
Field trips are a wonderful way to explore all that our beautiful state has to offer, learn something new, and connect with friends new and old.
This map is a compilation of some MHEA board favorites, and unexplored opportunities.
Please note that you always want to investigate ahead of time by checking out the website to see what they currently offer for educational programs or group rates. Then get in touch by phone or email to see what needs to happen to organize a group. Some facilities can accommodate very large groups, others might only be able to comfortably accommodate a group of 10 or less.
The options range from fun social gatherings where you can take advantage of group rates, to nature trails and hikes, to what parents often think of for field trips: organized educational programs run by a local museum or historical site. For statehouse tours, contact your local legislator.
We also encourage you to reach out to local farms, fire and police departments, wastewater treatment facilities (for real!) and artisans. Trade schools, colleges, hospitals and nursing homes are other options. Check out the various departments online and contact the head of the department you are interested in. Many will do a tour or special program even if it is not listed as an option on their website. Think of the people you know and what they do. Do they have a unique job that would make a cool field trip? It’s always great to inquire!
Have a pin you think should be on the map? Drop us an email and give us your suggestions. We’re happy to add new ideas!
