MHEA’s leadership team has a cumulative 100+ years of homeschooling experience. Our board includes two scientists, several community leaders who run some of the largest cooperatives and online groups in Maine, a lawyer, a seasoned nonprofit leader, well respected portfolio reviewers and a representative from the Early College program at the University of Maine System. 

We are unschoolers, classical home educators, homeschooling moms that have graduated our children, mamas of littles, mothers that have fought in Augusta on more than one occasion, mothers of neurodivergent children, stay-at-home mothers, mamas that work part-time, mothers that are the breadwinners and moms that own their own businesses, mothers that love Jesus and mothers that identify as secular. 

We respect and support each other and now we are excited to get started supporting Maine. This is a grassroots effort at its core.

We believe Maine homeschoolers are stronger together and we want to build up our community so that everyone feels empowered. Maine homeschoolers need support that feels fresh and relevant. 

We need a forward-thinking statewide organization to bring us: 

• workshops that really listen to OUR needs 
• a website that is a place we can all feel safe to go to for up-to-date information
• support and inspiration
• financial and structural support to new groups wanting to form
• retreats that address Mainers’ concerns and desires
• a business directory where we can support one another
• professional, collegiate and peer encouragement for our teens
• and community that is relatable to WHO we are. 

Our children and families are one of Maine’s biggest untapped resources. We are building our community to include partnerships with Maine businesses that see the value in investing in our bright, creative, independent thinkers as leaders of the next generation.
